Inventor Les Cookson has introduced Swap Arcade, a full-size arcade gaming system that easily folds into a compact cabinet, making it a space-friendly way to enjoy classic and modern games at home.
- Folds from full arcade to cabinet in seconds
- Features 100 built-in games with external system support
- Available in three stylish wood finishes
What happened
Les Cookson, inspired by his nostalgic arcade memories and desire to bond with his children, developed Swap Arcade, a foldable full-sized arcade cabinet. The machine can be transformed from a large arcade gaming setup into a slim wooden cabinet by folding down the upper part. This makes it easier to store and less intrusive in home environments.
Weighing approximately 45 kg and measuring about 70 by 28 by 14 inches when set up, Swap Arcade becomes a much smaller 36 by 29 by 13.5 inches cabinet for storage. It includes built-in shelving for game accessories and supports both retro and modern gaming systems, including consoles like Nintendo Switch and PlayStation variations.
Why it feels good
Swap Arcade taps into a warm sense of nostalgia while adapting to modern home life. Instead of settling for the clutter or conspicuousness typical of traditional arcade machines, owners get a stylish furniture piece that respects living space without giving up the joy of interactive games.
By offering a broad range of games from a starter set of 100 to external system connectivity, it invites family and friends to gather and enjoy gaming together in a way reminiscent of classic arcade camaraderie but updated for this generation’s convenience.
What to enjoy or watch next
Backers on Kickstarter can currently support Swap Arcade with an early bird price of $1,097, while the standard retail price will be $1,697. Interested gamers should consider shipment details as costs vary based on location, with deliveries expected around September or October if the campaign successfully funds.
Those waiting for more news can look forward to the three finish options—Natural, Walnut, and Dark Tobacco—allowing owners to match the cabinet to their home décor. The inclusion of a 27-inch HDMI display, Sanwa joysticks, and a dual-player control layout promises plenty of hands-on fun for all ages.
