What happened

The Columbia Climate School has announced the return of its Climate LIVE K12 webinar series for the 2026-27 academic year. From October through June, the program will host live, online sessions featuring researchers and students presenting on key climate and sustainability issues. Each session will be 30 minutes long, followed by a Q&A, and conducted via Zoom to accommodate a diverse global audience.

These free sessions target learners ranging from middle school to graduate students, as well as educators and anyone interested in climate topics. The 2026-27 season highlights include discussions on harmful algal blooms, biodiversity, climate finance, and the role of climate action in professional sports and wildfire management.

Why it feels good

This program offers a welcoming space for climate-curious individuals to connect directly with experts and young leaders actively working on climate solutions. By making science accessible and interactive, Climate LIVE encourages engagement, critical thinking, and hope among learners of all backgrounds.

Highlighting young voices from the Columbia Climate School’s Green Mountains pre-college program showcases inspiring examples of youth leadership in climate research. The focus on interdisciplinary understanding empowers participants to see how diverse fields contribute to addressing global climate challenges.

What to enjoy or watch next

Upcoming sessions include a talk on harmful algal blooms by a Green Mountains program alumna on October 14 and a November 18 discussion on the importance of biodiversity hosted by a Columbia professor. These sessions are carefully designed with target age groups but welcome all learners to join and interact.

All sessions require registration, and Zoom links are sent before each webinar. Recordings will be made available afterward on the Climate School’s YouTube channel, allowing anyone to catch up on fascinating topics at their convenience throughout the year.
