In Mumbai, Jayashree Ratan recognized this gap and started making soft, handmade breast prostheses using mercerised cotton yarn.
In 2018, she founded Saaisha India, a voluntary organization dedicated to providing these prostheses free of charge to women in need. The project quickly grew as volunteers joined in, and by August 2026, over 32,000 prostheses had been distributed—bringing relief and comfort to thousands of mastectomy survivors.
